Full Recipe:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (preferably 80/20 mix for flavor and juiciness)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (button or cremini work well)
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Prepare the Steak Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Divide into 4-6 portions and form into oval-shaped patties.
  2. Cook Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt butter. Add onions and mushrooms, cooking until soft and browned. Sprinkle flour over, stir and cook for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Combine and Serve: Return patties to skillet, spooning gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed.
