Full Recipe:

  • 1.5 lb chicken (2 large chicken breasts) divided into two
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (red pepper)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 4 hotdogs
  • Pocket pita bread (available at Mediterranean stores or restaurants)

Secret Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1-2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (or substitute with 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper)
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sweet chili sauce (or substitute with 1/2 teaspoon sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 cup cabbage
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 1/4 cup red cabbage (optional)

  1. In a bowl, mix garlic powder, cumin, salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, unsweetened yogurt, and oil. Marinate the chicken in this mixture for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
  2. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken until it’s well done and has nice grill marks, about 7-8 minutes on each side. Let it rest before slicing into thin strips.
  3. Grill the hotdogs until they are slightly charred.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the secret sauce.
  5. Slice the cabbage and carrot thinly.
  6. Warm the pocket pita bread on the grill or in a skillet.
  7. Assemble the shawarma wraps: spread some secret sauce inside the pita pocket, add chicken strips, grilled hotdog, and veggies. Drizzle some more sauce on top.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!
